Common name: Asiatic Primrose, Capitata Primula
Botanical name: Primula capitata Family: Primulaceae (primrose family)
Asiatic Primrose is an exotic, fall-blooming Primrose. Numerous, deep purple
flowers arranged in a ball-like structure, held aloft by intriguing powdery
white stems, above contrasting grey-green foliage. This species from Sikkim is
unfortunately short-lived but readily raised from seed. It needs consistently
moist soil to do well. The foliage is covered in whitish powder. The
8-12" stem is topped by a roundish cluster of rich purple-blue flowers in
July.
