Elongated Sweet-Grass is a loosely clustered grass,
with stems 20-50 cm tall, 3-4-noded. Leaf sheaths are hairless or
finely velvet-hairy; leaf blades linear or broadly linear, 5-25 cm, 3-8
mm wide, velvet-hairy or lower surface hairless, tip tapering; ligule
1.5-5 mm, flat-lacerate. Flowers are borne in panicles which are rather
loose or contracted, lanceshaped or lanceshaped-oblong in outline, 6-10
cm. Spikelets are lanceshaped-oblong, 5.5-8 mm, green when young,
maturing purplish brown; glumes unequal, lanceshaped. Elongated
Sweet-Grass is is found on open grassy mountainsides, dry rocky
ridges, forests, at altitudes of 2100-4000 m, from Himalaya to China.
