Himalayan Cat Tail is an annual grass with stems 8-35
cm high, usually erect. Leaf-blades are up to 13 cm long, 1.5-4 mm
wide, hairless; upper sheaths slightly inflated; ligule 1.5-3 mm long,
blunt. Flower-panicles are 1-6.5 cm long, 5-13 mm wide, ovoid or
oblong, pale green. Spikelets 2.5-4 mm long (including awns); glumes
gradually narrowed into a short awn, rough on the sides, stiffly
fringed with hairs on the keel, softly hairy on the margins especially
above; awn 0.3-0.5 mm long; lemma a third to half. the length of the
glumes, 5-nerved, velvet-hairy; anthers 0.5 mm long. Himalayan Cat Tail
is found in Afghanistan to W. Himalaya, at altitudes up to 3300 m.
