Hooded Dendrobium is a beautiful orchid native to the North-East India, the Himalayas to Burma, Thailand, and the Malaysian peninsula. The plant has pendant canes (pseudobulbs), and looks beautiful grown in baskets or mounted. However, in NE India it can be seen growing abundantly on trees as an epiphyte. The leaves fall off in autumn and in the spring, beautiful pale pink flowers sprout out of the nodes left by the fallen leaves. The color has subtle variations from pastel lavender to pink. Flowers are fragrant too. As the flowers fade, new growth begins at the base of the previous years growth. The leafless canes often rebloom for several years. Well grown plants can reach 3-4 ft in cane lengths. This orchid was beleived to be Dendrobium aphyllum, until recently when the scientific community agreed that it is actually Dendrobium cucullatum
