Botanical name: Thottea idukkiana Family: Aristolochiaceae (Birthwort family)
Idukki Bowl-Flower is a shrub about 4 ft tall. Leaves
are alternate, elongated pointed, simple smooth flexible glossy
aromatic, upto 16 x 6 cm. Flowers are borne in leaf axils, with 3
tepals, velvet-hairy, 1.2 cm across, purplish, non fragrant. The three
tepals are fused till almost half their lengths. From the leaves it
looks similar to
Bayleaf Bowl-Flower, but the
flowers are clearly different. Idukki Bowl-Flower is endemic to Kerala.
