Indian Bishop's Hat is a hairless herb up to 7 cm
tall. Leaves are 5-10 x 1-2 mm, linear-lanceshaped, base and tip
pointed, nearly stalkless; leaf-stalk faintly sheathing at base.
Flowers are white, solitary or 2-3 clustered in leaf axils.
Flower-stalks are thread-like, up to 1 cm long. Sepal-tube is 1 mm
long; sepals 4, as long as the tube. Flowers are up to 2 mm long,
bell-shaped, hairy within the throat. Stamens are 4, not protruding
out, anthers oblong. Ovary is nearly spherical; style 2, fused above.
Capsule is about 2 mm across, almost spherical. Indian Bishop's Hat is
found in Indo-Malesia to Australia and East Asia. In India it is found
mostly in Kerala. Flowering: September-October.
