Common name: Kabul Bog Star, Grass of Parnassus
Botanical name: Parnassia cabulica Family: Saxifragaceae (saxifrage family)
The plants of genus Parnassia are called Grass of Parnassus or
bog-stars. The epithet cabulica possibly refers to Kabul, in
Afghanistan, where this species is widespread. Grass of Parnassus is also a
book of poetry by Andrew Lang. Kabul Bog Star is a hairless perennial of damp
places, with usually leafless stem upto 30 cm. Leaves are ovate-oblong, often
heart-shaped at the base, entire and long stalked. Flowers white, solitary,
with 5 petals 6-12 mm long.
