It is called Monkey Orchid because its flower looks like the face of a monkey. Its flowers have greenish yellow petals and one big brown petal with various markings Monkey orchid is hard to find. Plants are up to 50 cm tall, with small pseudubulbs. Leaves are 3-4, stalkless, sheathing, oblong to lanceshaped, tapering, up to 35 x 8 cm. Flowering stem is in leaf-axils. Inflorescence lax with minutely velvet-hairy axis. Flowers 2-2.5 cm across. Bracts are persistent, lanceshaped, shorter than flower-stalklate ovary, ± 10 mm long. Monkey Orchid is found in the Himalayas, from Pakistan to W China, at altitudes of 1500-3000 m. Flowering: April-July.
