Common name: Peacock Echeveria
Botanical name: Echeveria peacockii    Family: Crassulaceae (orpine family)

A genus of justly popular, beautiful and easily grown succulents, particularly suitable as house plants. Native to Mexico to northwestern South America, the genus is named after the 18th century Mexican botanical artist, Atanasio Echeverria Godoy. They mostly have fleshy leaves forming rosettes of a wide assortment of attractive, geometric designs in a range of colours from green through grey to almost white, often with markings in contrasting shades. Forming a rosette up to five inches across of highly ornamental, thick, fleshy, blue-green leaves with a dense, waxy-white patina, it bears spiked clusters of glowing rich red, tubular flowers. They are drought resistant, although they do better with regular deep watering and fertilizing. Most will tolerate shade and some frost, although hybrid species tend to be less tolerant. They can be propagated easily by separating offsets, but may also be propagated by leaf cuttings, and by seed if they are not hybrids.
