Common name: Purple bellflower
Botanical name: Campanula dimorphantha Family: Campanulaceae (bellflower family)
This 15-40 cm high annual herb can be
found growing in the wild on hills in Western Ghats and the Himalayas.
It has a weak hairy stem with alternate leaves. The leaves are
elliptic-oblong, 3-8 cm long, hairy and toothed. Flowers occur solitary in
leaf axils or in cymes at the end of stems. Five sepals are lance-like and
hairy. The bluish purple bellshaped flower has 5 petals which are veined.
There are 5 stamens and a 3-lobes stigma.
