Purple Stem Taro is a species that has been under confusion for a long time. It is a robust plant that can grow up to 2 m tall. It is similar to Colocasia esculenta, but has narrower and more oblong leaves. Leaves are green, tinged with purple. Leaf-stalks are dark purple in color. Flower-cluster-stalk is also purple in color, and the spathe is bright yellow. Purple Stem Taro is native to NE India to China (W. & S. Yunnan) and N. Indo-China. Flowering: May-September.
