Semenov's Onion is an onion like plant with yellow flowers in dense spherical cluster up tp 3 cm across, with a broad papery spathe. Petals are oblong-lanceshaped long-pointed, 1.3-1.8 cm, stamens shorter than petals. Leaves are usually 2, stout, hollow, pointed, 6-13 mm broad, with a long sheath. The leaves are about as long as the stout stem which is 15-40 cm tall. Bulb is cylindrical, covered with old fibrous sheaths. Leaves are eaten as vegetable. Semenov's Onion is found in the Himalayas, from Pakistan to Himachal Pradesh, at altitudes of 3000-4000 m. Flowering: June-July.
