Dillenia suffruticosa - Shrubby Dog Teak

Shrubby Dog Teak is a medium-sized tree evergreen, up to 10 m. Leaves are elliptic to ovate, 15-30 by 8-15 cm, 12-20-nerved, rounded to blunt at tip, blunt at base, base continuous with petiolar wings. Leaf stalks 2-6 cm, with 4-10 mm broad persistent wings enclosing at branch-ends bud in young leaf. Flowers in up to 18-flowered at branch-ends simple or compound racemose inflorescences, 8-12 cm across. Flower-stalk 1-3 cm. Sepals obovate, 1.5-2.2 by 0.8-1.2 cm. Petals yellow, 4-5 by 2.5-3 cm. Staminodes about 100, 4-6 mm long, outside stamens. Stamens about 175, outer ones curved, inner ones reflexed at tip, from 8 (outermost) to 13 (innermost) mm long. Carpels are 5-8, about 5 by 2 mm with 10 mm long style; each with 7-10 ovules. Fruit dehiscent, sepals reflexed, carpels spreading, red, about 2-2.5 by 1-1.6 cm. Shrubby Dog Teak comes from Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo, cultivated elsewhere.
