Smooth Pea is an erect perennial herb 1-2 m tall, with stalked clusters of bright yellow or orange flowers in leaf axils. Standard petal is 2.3-3 cm long, wings and keel a little shorter, calyx hairless. Leaves compound with 4-10 large leaflets, ending in a bristle. Leaflets are elliptic with narrow tip, 5-9 cm long, stipules leaf-like. Pods are oblong, 5-7 cm long, 7-8 mm broad, hairless. Smooth Pea is found in the Himalayas, from Pakistan to W Nepal, at altitudes of 2100-3300 m. Flowering: May-June.
