South-Asian Pipewort is a herb with leaves linear,
3.5-4 cm x 4-6 mm, sparsely and shortly hairy, veins about 23.
Flowering stem is one, about 50 cm x 1.5 mm, 5-7-ribbed; sheath 14-28
cm; receptacle densely hairy. Flower-heads are milky white, almost
spherical, about 1 x 1.2-1.5 cm. Involucral bracts are reflexed,
straw-colored or blackish, oblong, 3.5-4 x 2.2-3.6 mm, below hairy at
base and shortly hairy toward tip. Floral bracts are
inverted-lanceshaped, below white club-shaped hairy toward tip.
South-Asian Pipewort is found in swamps, sunny marshlands, grassy
fields with loamy soil, at altitudes of 800-2800 m, in Guangdong, SE
Hunan, Yunnan, South & NE India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand,
Vietnam. Flowering: May-December.
