Spoonleaf Felwort is an erect, perennial,
hairless herb. Flowers are borne in leaf-axils or at branch-ends.
Flowers are 5 merous, up to 3 cm long, flower-stalk 0.8-3.0 cm long.
Flowers are blue to dark blue, parted to the base, petals 1-3 x 0.5-0.8
cm, elliptic-ovate or inverted-lanceshaped, pointed. Stamens are 5,
filaments inserted near the middle of petals or above, encircled by
fimbriae at the base, anthers are arrow shaped, dorsifixed. Ovary
0.75-1.5 x 0.2-0.4 cm, elliptic, stalkless, style absent, stigma small.
Sepal-cup is unequal, 5 lobed, tube shorter than sepals, about 0.2-0.4
cm long, sepals 0.5-1.0 x 0.2-0.4 cm, linear-lanceshaped, pointed,
entire. Stems are simple or branched from base or above. Basal leaves
and lower stem leaves are long stalked, 1-4.5 x 0.2-1.25 cm,
ovate-elliptic, spoon-shaped or obovate, blunt, entire, 3-5 nerved.
Stem leaves shortly stalked or nearly stalkless, leaf-stalk gradually
decreasing into a tube with leaves of opposite side, 1-4 x 0.3-0.6 cm,
lanceshaped-oblong or elliptic, pointed, entire. Capsule is 1.0-2.0 x
0.4-0.8 cm, elliptic, many seeded. Spoonleaf Felwort is native to
N. Pakistan to W. Himalaya, at altitudes of 1600-4000 m.
