Native to Assam, Tezpur Chilli is the plant that produces the hottest chilli on earth. Tests in 2006 conclusively proved that Tezpur Chilli is many times hotter than the previously believed hottest chilli, Red Savina from Mexico. Flowers do not look very different from the normal chilli flowers. However, the plant can grow tall, like a shrub. Tezpur Chilli is an old favourite in the North-East. Known in Manipuri as Oomorok (tree pepper), it is a much loved chilli in Manipur.
