Tubeflower Gentian has flowers borne singly, deep
blue, narrow tubular up to 2.5 cm long, with erect triangular to ovate
petals and short entire lobules. Sepal-cup is about half as long as
flower, with erect, short, narrow-ovate sepals. It is a clustered
cushion-forming leafy perennial, with tiny spoon-shaped to oblong
leaves in rosettes 1-2 cm across; leaves up to 7 mm long. Stems are
erect, leafy, 2.5-5 cm. Capsule is cylindrical about 1 cm, with long
style, borne on a long stalk projecting from the persistent perianth.
Tubeflower Gentian is found on screes, open slopes in the Himalayas,
from Himachal Pradesh to SE Tibet at altitudes of 4000-5000 m.
Flowering: July-September.
