Violet Himalayan Catmint, a Himalayan cousin of the better
known
Catmint, is a hairy unbranched perennial which
grows up to 1-2 ft tall. The stalkless leathery leaves are linear lance-like,
with heart-shaped
bases. Purplish-violet 2 cm flowers grow in a dense cylindrical spike. Sepals
are long fine-pointed, hairy. The flower is 2-lipped - the upper lip is
2-lobed and the lower one 3-lobed. Violet Himalayan Catmint is found in the
Himalayas, from Pakistan to Himachal Pradesh, at altitudes of 2100-3600 m.
Flowering: August-September.
