Wavyleaf Basketgrass is a shallow rooted perennial grass with runners that may grow to several feet in length. The plant is 15-50 cm long with leaf-blades being slightly lanceshaped, ovate, and are 1-7 cm long and 0.4-15 cm wide. Its inflorescence is 2-8 cm long and is made out of 5-11 wedge-shaped fascicles which are 0.5-1.5 cm long and carry 2-6 spikelets. Spikelets are lanceshaped just like leaf-blades, and are 2.5-4 mm long, hairless and velvet-hairy and have glumes which have smooth sticky awns which are 7-14 mm long. The awns of lower glumes are purple, are 5–10 mm long and are 3-5 veined. Wavyleaf Basketgrass is found in S Asia, S Africa and Australia. In India it is seen in the Himalayas, till altitudes of 2300 m. Flowering: July-November.
