Botanical name: Spathoglottis kimballiana    Family: Orchidaceae (Orchid family)

Yellow Ground Orchid is a medium sized, growing terrestrial orchid with small, compact, ovoid pseudobulbs enveloped completely by several leafless, distichous sheaths and carrying, 6, pleated, narrowly linear-lanceshaped, long tapering leaves, which are erect then arching. The plant blooms in the spring on a basal, 60 cm long, successively blooming, several flowered inflorescence, with broadly ovate-elliptic, blunt, strongly concave-boat-shaped, olive-green, stained red floral bracts. The plant carries a single to few flowers open at a time. Flowers are showy, brilliant yellow, 7-8 cm across. Yellow Ground Orchid is native to Borneo to Philippines,cultivated elsewhere.
