The Book of Indian Butterflies released

Isaac Kehimkar’s The Book of Indian Butterflies was released on 5th June 2008, amidst a packed hall with the crowd spilling over in the passage outside. Isaac’s brief introduction was simple and laced with bits of humour but he did highlight the arduous journey a writer has to take to write a book. Congratulations, Isaac!

3000 copies have been printed. Priced at Rs.1500. For BNHS members discounted price is Rs. 1125. it is printed by Oxford University Press so it should be available in bookshops in your cities soon. Apart from hundreds of photographs there are colour plates which are far better than the reprints of Wynter-Blythe:-

9 plates - Skippers
14 plates - Swallowtails
10 plates – Whites & Yellows
15 plates - Blues
33 plates – Nymphalids, Brush-footed butterflies
There is an interesting chapter on history of butterfly studies tracing from Johann Gerhard Koenig in 1767 to Sir Keith Cantlie in 1962.

A book worth carrying on long natural history trips.
