Chinese Banyan is a trees 15-25 m tall, crown wide,
d.b.h. to 50 cmm with bark dark gray. Branches produce rust-colored aerial
roots when old. Leaf-stalks are 5-10 mm,
hairless; leaf blade narrowly elliptic, 4-8 x 3-4 cm, somewhat leathery,
above dark green and shiny but dark brown when dry, base wedge-shaped,
margin entire, tip blunt; basal lateral veins long, secondary veins
3-10 on each side of midvein. Figs arise in leaf-axils on leafy branchlets
or on leafless older branchlets, paired, yellow to slightly red when
mature, depressed spherical, 6-8 mm in diameter.
Chinese Banyan is found in Tropical & Subtropical Asia to W. Pacific.
