Fairytale Flower is a shrub 2-3 m tall, with beautiful hanging flowers, borne in panicles about 15 x 3-4 cm, many flowered; flower-stalks about 8 mm. Sepal-cup tube about 2.5 x 5 mm; sepals triangular, about 1 x 1 mm, densely hairy. Petals are white, oblong or narrowly elliptic, 10-12 x 3-4 mm. Outer stamens are about 1 cm; filaments 2-toothed at tip, teeth horizontal, not reaching anthers; anthers borne between filament teeth, stalked, oblong. Inner stamens are shorter than outer ones. Styles are 5, longer than stamens. Flowering branchlets are gray-brown, 10-18 cm, 4-6-leaved, hairy. Leaf-stalks are 0.5-1.5 cm; leaf blade below grayish green, above greenish, ovate-oblong or oblong, 5-12 x 2.5-4.5 cm, somewhat leathery, below densely hairy, above sparsely hairy, veins in 8-12 pairs, base wedge-shaped or somewhat rounded, margin rounded toothed or almost entire, tip tapering. Capsule is hemispheric, about 4 x 6-7 mm, densely star-shaped hairy. Fairytale Flower is native to Taiwan to Philippines, widely cultivated for its beautiful flowers. Flowering: March-June.
