Large Golden Daisy is an annual, erect herb, 1-6 ft tall.
It is named in honour of "Gokhale Education Society, Nashik," one of the
oldest and well known educational institutes of Maharashtra.
It is closely related to
Vicoa cernua but differs in its 0.6 to 1.2
mm thick flower-cluster-stalk (vs. 0.1 to 0.2 mm thick
flower-cluster-stalk), much larger flower-heads 1.3-3.5 cm across (vs.
flower-heads 6-7 mm across), outer involucral bracts linear-ovate (vs.
outer involucral bracts linear-lanceshaped), inner involucral bracts
with fringed margin (vs. inner involucral bracts with entire margin),
receptacle 6-8 mm across (vs. receptacle 3.0-3.5 mm across), ray
florets 6-10 mm long (vs. ray florets 0.8-1.5 mm long) and narrowly
obtriangular-inverted-lanceshaped achenes of disc florets with 2-5
pappus hairs (vs. oblong to inverted-lanceshaped achenes of disc
florets with 10-14 pappus hairs). Leaves are 1.5-12 x 1.0-4.5 cm,
simple, alternate, toothed margin, pointed tip, bristly-rough on both
surfaces, lower surface pale, glandular; basal to middle leaves with
4-15 mm long leaf-stalk, lanceshaped-elliptic, leaf base pointed to
tapering; middle to apical leaves stalkless, lanceshaped-elliptic to
oblong-inverted-lanceshaped, leaf base pointed to broadly narrowed
stem-clasping. Large Golden Daisy is found in Western Ghats.
