I visit 'Flowers of India' regularly and needless to say it is a joy doing so. It is not only 'beautiful' but very informative as well. Thanks to you, i now know some Meiteilon terms for some flowers and plants which i didn't earlier. I had also once written i this guestbook about how 'Flowers of India' remind me of home. Today i would like to comment on a Meiteilon term used in of a certain plant in the 'Medicinal Plants' section, the Meiteilon term for Wild turmeric is given as 'yaingang'. Correct me if i am wrong, but i guess the photo is that of 'yaipan' and not 'yaingang' plant. If the photo is Wild turmeric, then the Meitei term, i feel, should be 'yaipan' and not 'yaingang'. 'yaingang' which is 'Turmeric' is a different variety. Please do write to me if i am wrong about this. It would of help. Thanks. And please keep up the good work. Its such a pleasure visiting this site. India - Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 15:11:20 (IST) Very gd site. Actually i want to plant rhododendrons in pune. Who can advice me about this and can we grow thm here etc. want quick reply Mamta Apte <mamta_apte Pune, maharashtra India - Saturday, February 07, 2009 at 18:33:49 (IST) Team's reply: Mamta, the only rhododendrons that you might be able to plant as garden flowers are what are called Azaleas. However, we are note sure whether they will grow in Pune weather, because we have only seen them growing in cooler climates, mostly in the North-East and in the hill-sations of India. This website is a most useful resource for botanists and lay persons alike, as well as being a delight to just look through. I am a nature lover having passion for seeing wild flowering plants growing in nature and trying to identify them on the basis of my limited knowledge of the Taxonomy branch of Botany. I would like to make suggestion for this site - wether it is possible to identify the plant on basis of certain characteristics disclosed by the plant lover who visits your site ? You may consider providing this option or if this already exists please guide me. This kind of information should be made available by governemnet and research institutes. I would hope that at least individuals within these institutes will contribute to keeping this site an authentic treasure trove of information on the flora of this country. Congratulations and keep up the good work. Its great to see that the site is evolving and alive.
