FOI is one of my favourite sites. It reminds me about the perpetual beauty of nature. Flowers stir me to write poems by filling my mind and heart with ecstasy. It is unfortunate that our daily hustle and bustle of life estrange us from our beautiful environ.

Excellent site! Gives all the information what one needs. One of the most attractive parts is information about trees described in Ancient Indian Literature. Names given in many languages with thier botanical names provides a completeness. Incidentally, I discovered this website a few days prior to an article in newspaper came on Ms. Girija and the website. Many many thanks for creating and maintaining this website.

Wow! are the only three letters with which I can associate your site with.I have gone through the plethora of websites on gardening and Lot of books on the subject.I have been researching on the subject from a while but the information provided by you guys and the way it has been sewn into a web is truly amazing.
One this I would like to share is that your site shows true passion for the novice as well as experienced gardners.
Five things I liked Most
1. Identifying Trees from their Leave Type (Marvellous and Unique Concept with Great Usability)
2. All Flowers with their pics
3. Beautyfull bifurcation between the categories at the home page
4. Most information about bulbs which I unfortunately could not find at one place anywhere on the net
5. Trip to Valley of flowers
Very much impressed with the site

You've taken on a huge and enormously useful project. Is there any way we visitors can help out (instead of simply gushing about how much we love this website)? How about organizing users in India by state/region and letting these subgroups take the initiative to plan and conduct field trips and conservation activities? To see how native plant lovers organize to appreciate and conserve the flora in my regions of the US, you might want to check out the website of the Washington Native Plant Society (WNPS.org). All states in the US have a similar Native Plant Society. Also, have you considered applying for funding so you can get some professional help in running this website and your other activities (e.g. field trips to record floral diversity in distant corners of the country)? I'm sure all of us who admire your efforts will be happy to write testimonials attesting to the value of your work. Best wishes.

a commendable and hearty effort. im going to be reading this site for ages. it would be great if you could add perennial flowering plants in india. you know how hard it is to talk to a maali if u want to landscape your garden. i can bet it will end up looking exxxxactly the same as the garden next to u and so on. do nurseries outside transport seeds or plants out of their particular state?
nevertheless its a stupendous effort. time to go talk to my maali armed with info from this site!!!
cheers!!

I liked your cite very much. I am fond of plants. I know names of flowers / plants only in Hindi or Telugu. Now I am trying to learn Botanical names and names in other languages also. At present, I have a very small place to grow plants . But daily I seeyour cite to get inspiration to earn more so that one day I may be able to purchase a big place to grow many more types of plants / trees. In future I will add photographs of flowers / plants grown in pots at home ( To know the name of flowers & Plants, I have not seen the photo of the flowers in this cite.)

Team's reply: The botanical name of Malati is Aganosma heynei. We have seen it growing in at least two gardens in Delhi, so we believe it must be available in nurseries. However, the problem is that the nursery-wallas may not know it by the name Malati!
its a very informative website.. for an agriculture student like me who tend to forget all the info about agriculture in due course of time because of drift in a different path of career, its a boon to be taught so colorfully again... i'm putting this website's link in my blog...

Greetings! I wanted to thank you sincerely for such a priceless creation! I work with an organisation called Jodo Gyan and we work with schools and teachers to make teaching learning practices meaningful and engaging for children. As part of one of our EVS curriculum, topic-Trees, me and my teachers have extensively referred to your site to build familiarity with trees. This process is ongoing and I wanted to thank you for creqating this. Besides Pradip Krishen's - Trees of DElhi there is no easy reference for flowering trees. Please do let me know if you would be interested in organising a session for teachers on trees around us and how you developed this love for observing trees. You can write back on jodogyandel@gmail.com. Hope to hear from you.
Regards,
Minal

I have been keenly interested in gardening and photographing flowers. Hit upon your site when searching the botanical name of purple flowers in our roof garden. It was Petrea Volubilis as I picked up from google images. I have > 1000 flower pictures and dont know how to put them up for all to enjoy.

Team's reply: It will be good to try to identify your flowers yourself by browsing the various categories on the site. If you think the flower may be new to the site, you can send the picture to us, and we will try to identify it. Identifying one or two flowers is always okay for us, but mostly people at this end will be tied up with updating the site etc, so may not be able to answer your queries promptly.
This is great and very useful website for plant identification

Dear friend,I have a suggestion, please start a non-flowering site also. That will complete all the fauna of our India.i think as the lovers of plants you behind this site already think about this. You may see a number of Bryophytes Pteridophytes,Gymnosperms etc while you visit several places like Manipur Meghalaya Ooty etc.So please keep this in mind.
I write this because, here in Kerala;there are a number of ferns and other lower plants. Most of them are beautiful and rare too,but I don't know their names and other details. So please START such a Site immediately.

Team's reply: The flowering plants are taking all of our time and effort. Non-flowering plants is a completely different, and very interesting domain. Maybe we will start a section on it at some point in time, but not immediately though.
nice site thanks for sharing with us

Hi I stumbled upon this great web site today ,i was cursing myself how come i did not see this web site all these days even though i spend lot of time in searching for plants on line It is a fantastic effort, very informative, there can not be any other web site better than this for plant lovers in India , for the last 6 years i have been travelling all over the world to collect the rare plants usefull to birds and butter flies lastly for human beings to see . i must have visited all most all the moajor nurseries in India from himalayas to kerala, most of my collections are from kolkota, kerala and kadiam in Andhra
I have also visited bogor botanical garden in jakartha, candy royal botanical garden in srilanka, queen sirkit botanical garden in chiang mai, singapore botanical garden, noong nooch botanical resort in pattaya etc .i too collected many plants from Indonesia , Thailand , malaysiia and srilanka ,good percentage of plants died due to the neglegence, wrong planting and due to the heavy monsoon rain in my location, we are developing an botanical resort in the foot hills of western ghat close to udupi between mangalore and goa , the resort is still under construction, the soft launch is planned for march 2012 , there are more than 6000 varieties of plants planted in the resort, the unique feature of the resort is it is home to many wild birds and butterflies, the 22 acres village resort is on the edge of the evergreen rain forest close to two cascading water falls 8 km to the beach, surrounded by a perennial stream in the snake head shape, only resort as on today in India with nature pool(under construction),complete organic food is planned with a temple look spa, entry to the resort is on invitation ,we have been ably supported by a simple person by name krishna charan in bangalore who helped us in identifying and collecting many varieties in India, please have a look at our web site www.wildwoodsspa.com for more imformation

Great Job.
I am looking for information on GAC fruit from Viatnam. Its botanical name is Momordica cochinchinensis, other names are Baby Jackfruit, Spiny Bitter Gourd. So many sites erroniously call it Bhat Karela. Bhat karela is name of Momordica dioica which also known as Kantolla.

Can you please let me know if is grown any where in India?

Also I will appreciate if there is any database of flowers state wise?

Thank you for such a nice collection!

For me it a single source of information on flowers around me and many other available in India, many of which we might never ever see or hear about in reality.

I would call this site as an "Encyclopedia on Indian flowers"...
